About
XML Web Service and its purpose
XML web services
are the fundamental building blocks to distributed computing on the web.
XML Web services are built using XML, SOAP, WSDL, and UDDI specifications.
They comprise of a set of base line specifications that provide the foundation
for application integration. Web Services are applications that share
or exchange data, and automate processes over Internet.

There are many applications based on Bio-Informatics such as BLAST, ClustalW,
and GeneScan that uses Webservice are available in a wide spread. To deploy
a web service the following steps have to be followed:
Open
a document structure to contain Input and Output documents.
Create a WSDL.
Write a Wrapper Class around an Executable program.
Deploy the Wrapper class.
The Web Services
Resource Framework proposes a model for Web Services. The Web Services
Resource Properties Specification provides a means by which the requestors
can view and Edit the type and resources of Web Service Resources state
through Web Service Interface.
It also defines a set of message exchanges that allows the requestor to
update the property resource of the instance.
XML is also
used to send SMS messages. Short Message Services (SMS) is a term that
is used for sending messages through Mobile Phones.SMS is similar to sending
E-Mails. Since, the transactions that are carried out through HTTP result
in interoperability problems; the SMS forums have developed 2 applications:
Short
Message Application Part (SMAP) : It is an XML format for the messages
themselves.
Mobile Message Access Protocol (MMAP): It is a SOAP-based protocol
for sending those messages.
SMAP Messages:
The actual
message passed is expressed as SMAP message. The SMAP protocol was developed
based on the fact that when compared to the Binary form that the SMS take
currently,
The XML based format is more convenient to use and is interoperable.
It is more
convenient to use a MMAP when it is used with the SOAP structure.
It possible
to create Web Services in a network by combining the features of JAVA
and XML.
The JAVA technology Web Services Model is based on open standards that
allow developers to create solutions from compatible products. It allows
developers to create innovative solutions to diverse problems without
being locked on. The JAVA technologies for XML offer developers, powerful
tool set for developing and deploying JAVA based applications of the JAVA
platforms portable code and XMLs Data.
The JAVA
platform and XML are two open industry standards that lower the cost of
information and sharing Data.
