The features of these tools that are meant for working with the XML documents makes them the preferred choice for many users worldwide. Apart from these tools a simple search on the internet is sure to give many such tools that are available for free.

Syntax color coding, intelligent editing, code completion, context sensitive help are some of the features that are very useful while you code the XML and XSL files. You can create schema and DTD from these tools. You can also generate the schema from an XML file using these tools.

It is also possible to generate an instance of that document from the schema or DTD. The well-formedness of the document is checked automatically. You can validate an XML document against a schema or DTD with these tools. Amaya, Cooktop, GenDoc, Pecel, Schematron, Xeena, and Debit are some of the tools available for free.
